Nursing Student Summer Employment Program
Health care facilities across the Island offer up to eleven weeks summer employment opportunities for Nursing students who have successfully completed at least one year of a recognized Bachelor Degree in Nursing Program or Practical Nursing Diploma Program. Students will be hired to work in the public health care sector and in fully licensed private nursing homes.
One of the program's primary objectives is to provide further opportunities for students to become familiar with the Prince Edward Island health care system.
Facility staff will coordinate job duties and supervise the nursing students. Students are employed full-time (37.5 hours per week) from June to August. Students may be required to work evenings and weekends.
Student rates of pay will be as follows: (subject to change)
Students who have successfully completed:
- first year (including Practical Nursing students) will receive $12.79 per hour;
- second year will receive $13.50 per hour;
- third year will receive $16.00 per hour.
Best efforts will be made to provide a placement which complements the students educational program. Students eligible to apply are those who will be re-entering their educational program in the upcoming academic year.
Hired students will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check prior to employment start date. Some facilities require employees to adhere to a dress code policy.
Nursing Students: If you have not succssfully completed at least one year of a recognized Bachelor Degree in Nursing program or Practical Nursing Diploma program by the start of the summer program, please apply to the Health Care Futures Program and not the Nursing Student Summer Employment Program.
